Foreign Affairs Information Technology Fellowship
If you're pursuing an IT-related degree and interested in using technology solutions for the business of diplomacy, particularly if you are a member of an underrepresented group, the Foreign Affairs Information Technology Fellowship (FAIT) could be your path to a rewarding career. This fellowship offers you a truly unique opportunity, including financial support, mentoring and professional development, as well as employment in the U.S. Foreign Service upon successful completion of the program.
Applications are now being accepted for the U.S. Department of State's Foreign Affairs Information Technology Fellowship 2023 cohort.
As one of several high-profile U.S. Department of State diversity recruitment programs, the FAIT Fellowship seeks to attract top technology talent to the Foreign Service that reflects the diversity of the United States.
This two-year fellowship program is a unique opportunity for individuals who want to pursue an IT-related bachelor’s or master’s degree and a career in the U.S. Foreign Service as an Information Management Specialist.
What Are the Benefits of the FAIT Fellowship?
As a FAIT Fellow, you will receive:
Up to $43,500 annually (for two years) in academic funding for tuition, room and board, books, mandatory fees, and some travel expenses.
Two summer internships (with stipends, housing, and travel allowances): a domestic internship in Washington, D.C. and an overseas internship at a U.S. embassy or consulate.
Personalized mentoring and professional development throughout the program.
When you've successfully completed the program and the Foreign Service entry requirements. you'll receive an appointment as a Foreign Service Information Management Specialist (IMS) and launch your career traveling the world and supporting diplomacy through technology.
Are You Eligible to Apply?
To be eligible to apply for the 2023 cohort, you must:
Be a U.S. citizen
Be enrolled full-time in an IT-related bachelor’s degree program or seeking admission in an IT-related master’s degree program at a U.S.-based accredited institution
Be on a timeline to graduate with your bachelor’s or master’s degree in spring 2025 while enrolled full-time for spring and fall semesters*
Hold a minimum 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale at the time of the application, and maintain this GPA throughout the program More details on eligibility can be found on the FAIT Fellowship website eligibility page.

Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) Student Experience Internships
Open: 2022-November 1-30 or until 100 applications are received
DCSA Student Experience (DSE) is a paid internship program designed to attract diverse and talented sophomores, juniors or seniors enrolled full-time in the fall of 2023 in an undergraduate degree program at an accredited college or university. Students have an opportunity to gain marketable developmental experience in counterintelligence and insider threat, industrial security, personnel security, security training, and other DCSA core mission and support areas.
Highlights
Students typically work for a recommended minimum of 10 weeks from May through August as full-time, temporary federal employees. Students that successfully complete the summer program may be eligible to return to their internship during academic breaks. Students must provide proof of full-time enrollment from an accredited institution in order to be considered. All students will successfully complete the security clearance process for a Secret level clearance and pass a drug screening test prior to receiving a final offer to participate in the program. Students who receive successful performance may be eligible for non-competitive conversion to a permanent position if all requirements are met. Funding availability, mission requirements, and other factors may apply.
Eligibility
To be eligible, applicants must:
Be a U.S. citizen
Enrolled in their sophomore, junior, or senior year of a full-time undergraduate degree program from an accredited college or university in the fall of 2023
Have a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA or above (on a 4.0 scale) at the time of application (must notate GPA in resume)
Have the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
Have the ability to pass pre-employment and random drug testing
Reside in the local commuting area of the program location during the summer
Meet other qualifications as stated in the application

U.S. Department of State Summer 2023 Paid Student Internship Program
Open: 2022-October 31 until 2022-November 7
The Student Internship Program is now offering paid internship opportunities. It is intended to expand global opportunities for students from all backgrounds who are pursuing post-secondary degrees. All our compensated internships provide opportunities to gain experience and insight into the business of diplomacy as our employees work to advance U.S. interests worldwide.

Highlights
This is a paid internship with the opportunity to work in U.S. embassies and consulates throughout the world, as well as in various bureaus located in Washington, D.C. and at Department offices around the United States. This program is designed to provide substantive learning experiences in a foreign affairs environments. While the duties of both the paid and unpaid U.S. Department of State Student Internship Program participants vary from bureau to bureau, office to office, and embassy to embassy, it is not uncommon for these students to:
Participate in meetings with senior-level U.S. Government or foreign government officials
Draft, edit, or contribute to cables, reports, communications, talking points, or other materials used by policymakers in furthering U.S. foreign policy objectives
Support events, including international and/or multilateral meetings and conferences or
Engage directly with U.S. audiences in helping to explain the work of the Department of State or foreign audiences in helping to promote U.S. foreign policy and improve understanding of U.S. culture and society.
