Who Can Become an IC CAE Scholar?

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence created a standard definition of IC CAE scholars across the nation:

An IC CAE Scholar is a U.S. citizen and current student at an active or legacy IC CAE institution, or an individual who has graduated from such an institution, who has successfully completed at least one course in IC CAE study areas, such as Intelligence, National Security, Critical Technologies, STEM, languages, or other areas of study as determined by the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) to meet Intelligence Community needs. This individual has also participated in at least two IC CAE-focused activities each school year and is interested in a career within the Intelligence Community.

Requirements to Become an IC CAE Scholar:

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student in a STEM degree program at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Alabama A & M University, or Tuskegee University.

  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.0.

  • Interest in pursuing a career in the United States intelligence community.

  • U.S. Citizen capable of obtaining a valid US passport and eligible for a security clearance.

IC CAE Scholars Expectations:

  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0.

  • Participate in at least two IC CAE events per year (e.g. seminars, workshops, field trips)

  • Attend the annual Colloquium in the spring semester.

  • Encouraged: Complete research through a class or approved outside project in an area of interest to the Intelligence Community and present your research at an IC CAE event.

IC CAE Certificate Requirements:

Completion of the courses specified by your university with a grade of 3.0 or higher will lead to an IC CAE Certificate as defined by your university. IC CAE students who meet program expectations are named as IC CAE Scholars and are able to indicate this status on internship and job applications. This status will give you hiring preference throughout your IC career.

What is an IC CAE Scholar?

Students enrolled as an IC CAE Scholar at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Alabama A & M University, and Tuskegee University have many specialized opportunities for training and experiential learning to prepare them for careers in the Intelligence Community.

Benefits of Enrollment as an IC CAE Scholar:

Preparation for a career in the Intelligence Community (IC) through training and interactions with members of the IC.

Participation in IC CAE events such as workshops, symposiums, and site visits to national laboratories, agencies, and industry.

Opportunities to participate in two week intensive intelligence career training in Washington DC.

Priority recruitment by IC agencies and special IC CAE scholars-only hiring events.

Assistance in writing a resume and developing interview skills targeted for pursuing internship and employment opportunities with intelligence agencies.

Eligibility for IC CAE research travel stipends and stipends for travel to conferences and workshops.

Eligibility for federal internships specifically designated for IC CAE program participants.

Access to the IC CAE laboratory at your university if available.

Completion of coursework to prepare for a career in intelligence.
